International center of improvement of corn and corn
The international center of improvement of corn and the corn , or CIMMYT (of the Spanish Centro internacional of mejoramiento of maiz there trigo ), is a non-profit-making organization whose mission is to contribute to the improvement of the means of subsistence of the populations of the Tiers-Monde by the improvement of the seeds of Blé and Maïs, principal food crops of the world.
This organization resulting from a pilot program is led to the Mexico in 1943 under the Parrainage unites Mexican government and Fondation Rockefeller. It has its seat with Mexico City and various representations in Africa, in Latin America, Asia and Australia. The CIMMYT employs a hundred specialized researchers and 500 collaborators coming from 40 countries. Its financings come from varied sources: international agencies of development, governments, private foundations and private sector. Among these financeurs, one can quote in particular the the World Bank, the the United States, the European Union, the Suisse, the Japan, the Rockefeller foundation, as well as Mexico which accommodates the principal site.
The CIMMYT is one of the fifteen specialized research centres concerning the advisory Groupe for international agricultural research (CGIAR, of English Consultative Group one International Agricultural Research ).
