International baccalaureat

The international baccalaureat (BI) is the name commonly given to the Programme of the diploma of the Organization of the International Baccalaureat. It is a diploma of secondary studies recognized in several countries of the world which gives access to the Université. He is proposed in schools with international vocation for pupils from 16 to 19 years. The program of BI extends over two years and is proposed in three official languages: English, Spanish and French.
The academic program of the international baccalaureat is composed of a joint base and six matters which the pupils choose in six sets of themes groups:
- Group 1: Language A1 (level Native tongue)
- Group 2: Second language
- Group 3: Individuals and companies (Humanities: history, economy, geography, philosophy…)
- Group 4: Applied sciences (Physical Biology, , Chemistry, systems of the Environment…)
- Group 5: Mathematical
- Group 6: Art S (Music, Visual arts…) - the choice of a matter in group 6 is optional and can be replaced by the choice of an additional matter in one of the first five groups.
Three of the six matters must be studied at the higher level (240 hours of annual courses), three at the average level (150 hours of annual courses). According to the schools and the timetables, the pupils can choose a seventh matter.
The joint base comprises three parts:
- the writing of a memory on a subject left with the choice of the pupil
- Of the courses of theory of knowledge, reflection on knowledge and its fields, approaches cultural knowledge.
- Creativity, action, service (CAS): the CASE is a program which proposes activities Sport ives, artistic activities and social activities and Community. The pupils are held to devote 3 hours per week to the CASE.
Recognition of BI in the French-speaking countries
The following countries recognize the international baccalaureat for the access to an education of university level- Belgium: a ministerial decree of October 25th, 1973 confirms the recognition of BI like diploma giving access to the university system.
- Canada: there does not exist federal recognition of the international baccalaureat, but it is recognized by many Canadian universities. SÉBIQ , Société of the schools of international education of Quebec offers the program to the Quebec.
- France: According to the provisions installation by the decree of the Minister of education main road of August 23rd, 1985, concerning the foreign diplomas, BI is regarded as any other diploma giving place to an exemption of baccalaureat French to reach the university.
- Swiss: acceptance in university is prone to obtaining notes minimum (32 points on a possible maximim of 42) to the diploma of the international baccalaureat.
