International airport of Tunis-Carthage

The international airport of Tunis-Carthage (rear RTL مطارتونسقرطاجالدولي) (Code AITA: TUN , Code ICAO: DTTA ) serves Tunis (Capitale of the Tunisia). Located at 8 kilometers in the North-East of Tunis, it is put in exploitation in 1940.

The Aéroport bears the name of the historical city of Carthage which is located at the east of the airport. At the time of its introduction, the Aérodrome is known under the name of Tunis-El Aouina .

Like all the Tunisian airports, the airport is managed by the Office of the civil aviation and the airports (OACA).

History

Although already served since 1920 by Hydravion S of the Air and sea Company which are posed on the Lac of Tunis, the aerodrome of Tunis modest east initially of size: one counts, in 1938, 5800 passengers between Tunisia and the France. A new terminal for the flights charters, inaugurated the September 23rd 2006, makes it possible to relieve congestion the traffic while increasing the number of terminals with 2. Arranged in the place of the old air terminal of the pilgrims, on a surface of 5500 m ², the new terminal has a capacity of reception of 500.000 travellers per annum. It is composed of three buildings (departure, arrival and transit). Other projects are still envisaged such as the extension of the control field and the customs and the restoration of spaces of services inside the air terminal. Being the actions undertaken in 2005, they related to the acquisition of the carriages and the rehabilitation of the living rooms of honor and the frontage of the air terminal.
