International airport of Padang
The international airport of Padang Minangkabau (code IATA: chairman, code ICAO: WIPT) is the principal airport of the province Indonesia nne of Western Sumatra. It is located at 23 km in the North-West of Padang, the capital of the province.
The airport covers a surface of 42.700 hectares and has a directed track 15/33 of 2.750 m X 45 Mr. It is envisaged to increase the length of the track to 3.000 m to accommodate Boeing 747 and to connect the airport to Padang by a railway.
The airport bears the name of the main thing Ethnicity of the province, the Minangkabau. It entered in service in 2005 to replace the old airport of Tabing, too close to the city and the mountain ( tabing means " falaise" in language minangkabau).
