the international airport of Narita (in Japanese 成田国際空港, Narita Kokusai Kūkō, Code AITA NRT , Code ICAO, RJAA ) is a international Aéroport located at Narita, Chiba of the great area of Tōkyō to the Japan. It is located at 66 km in the North-East of the capital and it is the 27e in the world of many passengers in 2006.
It should not be confused with the International airport of Tōkyō-Haneda located much more close to Tōkyō and which is generally indicated as the Haneda airport - a long time reserved for the only interior flights in spite of its name (it accommodates from now on some international flights, in source and bound for Seoul in particular). The official name of Narita is, in English Narita International Airport , in Japanese: Narita Kokusai Kûkô .
Access
For you to return there, you can borrow the Narita Express of the Japan Railways from the station of Tōkyō or that of Shinjuku, or the Skyliner of the privat line of Keisei Electric Railway with the Keisei-Ueno stop (located under the park of Ueno), or take the line of Drunk buses Limousine which connects the airport and the principal districts of Tōkyō. You can also travel by a taxi of Tokyo to the airport, but that costs more than 20.000 yens (more than 120 euros). Transport of the center of Tokyo to the airport with Skyliner take 1 hour, the others take 1 hour 30.
History
In 1962, the Japanese government began from research on an alternative to too adulterated international airport of Tōkyō ( Haneda Airport ), and suggested a New Tokyo International Airport (新東京国際空港 Shin-Tōkyō Kokusai Kūkō ) to manage the international flights of Haneda.
Initially envisaged on the territory of the village of Tomisato, it was moved to 5 km of the village of Sanrizuka where the imperial family had a large farm - what facilitated expropriation but did not prevent the controversies. In 1971, when expropriations began, 291 peasants were stopped and more than thousand villagers were wounded at the time of engagements.
The airport was to be inaugurated in March 1978 but the resistant ones to the project delayed this one two months additional.
The construction of the airport is not completed yet. Initially, the airport was projected to have 3 tracks (4000m, 2500m, and 3000m). However, it only had 1 track (4000m) up to 2002. In 2002 of another track was opened, but its longor is 2180m only, because the expropritation additionele was not successful.
Organization of the airports tokyoïtes
The opening of a new track on the Airport Haneda (in 2009?) will allow this airport to increase its traffic of 40%. Tōkyō will be thus more easily accessible to the industrialists and its inhabitants; and the access to the capital, since the other Japanese areas, will be facilitated by it. The exclusive use of Haneda for the internal traffic is disputed more and more, and one can expect that the airport opens with the international traffic when the new track is built. It should be noted, also, that at April 1st, 2004, the international airport of Narita took the shape of a privately held company, and that in February 2005, the International airport of Chubu, located in the Préfecture of Aichi, will be operational.
