International airport of Monastir Habib-Bourguiba

The international airport of Monastir Habib-Bourguiba (rear RTL مطارالحبيببورقيبةالدولي) (Code AITA: MIR , Code ICAO: DTMB ) serves Monastir and more generally all the area of the the Tunisian Sahel. Located at 8 kilometers in the west of Monastir, on the territory of the municipality of Skanès, it is put in exploitation in 1968 on a Superficie of 199,5 Hectare S.

The activity of the Aéroport is primarily related to the routing of tourists coming to visit Monastir, Sousse and the seaside resorts surrounding (Monastir-Skanès and Port El-Kantaoui in particular). The near total of the flights are charters concentrated during the tourist season. Thus, 200 European airports, 21 African and 3 means-Eastern are connected to the airport.

Of a capacity of: 3500000 passengers per annum, the air terminal extends on: 28000 m ². The airport is the second of the country in term of traffic with: 4133768 passengers in 2006. The airport bears the name of old the president Habib Bourguiba which is native of Monastir.

Like all the Tunisian airports, the airport is managed by the Office of the civil aviation and the airports (OACA). However, as of January 2008, it will pass under the management of the Turkish consortium TAV Airports Holding, for one 40 years period, within the framework of the concession of the future International airport of Enfida also granted to the same group.
