International airport Henri Coandă

The international airport Bucharest Henri Coandă is most important Aéroport of Romania and one of the two airports of the Rumanian capital (second is Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu). It is in the locality Otopeni, from where it drew also its name ( International airport Otopeni ) before being famous, in September 2004. Its Code IATA is always OTP besides.

History

1940-1944: On the ground of the current airport a military base functioned belonging to III-eme Reich.

1944-1965: The infrastructure of the airport (the track of 1200 meters and buildings additional) was used by the Rumanian military aviation.

1965: The increase in the air traffic, ensured by the airport of Baneasa, imposes the construction of a new airport. The process of transformation of military air base into international airport had as main object modernization track to pouracceuillir it planes has more important mass, the prolongation of the track up to 3500 meters, the modernization of the powerplant and the construction of a terminal for the passengers.

1969: The air terminal cargo liner is then used temporarily for the loading of the passengers. At the time of on August 2nd the inauguration of the official living room of the airport at the time of the visit of Richard Nixon US president takes place.

1970: April 13rd, the inauguration of the air terminal for the passengers takes place. The air terminal then has a capacity of 1,2 million passengers per annum.

1986: The airport reaches a new stage of development: a second track of 3500 meters is built. The operational capacity grows then has 35 movements of planes per hour. The system of beacons is modernized.

1991: The airport begins an investment plan named " Development and Modernization of the Bucharest-Otopeni" International airport; in co-operation with an roumano-Italian association (Italstrade, S.E.A. Milano, C.C.C.F).

1993: The airport becomes member of the ACI (Airport Council International).

1997: The terminal " Internationaux" departures; , with a capacity of 1200 passengers per rush hour opens its doors in December. The departure lounge is envisaged with 5avio-bridge for the direct access of the passengers on the aircraft.

1998: The passengers of race TAROM bound for Paris inaugurate the modern system of loading in June.

2000: The hurdy-gurdy air terminal is refitted and the new flow of passengers " Internationales" arrivals; in November is founded.

2001: The new space of carpark is inaugurated in June for the terminal of the arrivals (3 levels and a capacity of 900 places). Setting-up duBucharest International Cargo liner Center (the international center cargo liner of Bucharest) takes place in August the purpose of which is to answer the new request of the field of air transports of goods.

2003: July 16th, the terminal of the internal races opens with a capacity of 200 passengers per rush hour for two arrived flows/departures.

2004: It is in September, with the 35ème birthday of the civil aeronautics activity, that the name of the pioneer of Rumanian and world aviation HENRI COANDA replaces the name of Otopeni.
