International agency of energy

The International agency of energy ( IEA ) (in English International Energy Agency ( IEA )) is an international organization founded with OECD in 1974.

History

Created in 1974 following the first Oil crisis, the International agency of energy is a International organization intended to facilitate the coordination of the energy policies of the Member States. The IEA was first of all given for goal to ensure the safety of the energy supplies (Pétrole mainly) in order to support the economic growth. She intends to achieve this objective today, while contributing to environmental protection, the reflection on the climate changes and the reforms of the markets.

The IEA studies in details all the energetic sectors except the field of nuclear fission, analyzed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

The International agency of energy is an autonomous agency of the Cooperation organization and of development economic (OECD), it has its seat with Paris and counts 27 Member States.

Following the damage caused by the Hurricane Katrina, the IEA coordinates the action of the Member States to guarantee the oil provisioning, in particular while drawing from strategic reserves of the United States, Germany and France.

Organization

The International agency of energy is made up of a Board of management (senior officials in charge of energy sent by the various Member States) which meets periodically and of a Secretariat (effective permanent specialists in the energy questions) placed under the authority of an Executive director. The Board of management currently names the Executive director (: Claude Mandil).
