International Race off Champions
The IROC or International Race off Champions is an automobile competition on invitation joining together of the pilots resulting from various categories.
History
Created in 1973, the vocation of origin of the IROC was to make clash on a championship of some races, the best pilots of the principal international disciplines (IndyCar, NASCAR, Formule 1, Sport-Prototypes). Exclusively organized in the United States, the IROC had with the passing of years more and more difficulties in attract the pilots of the championships " étrangers" (and in particular Formula 1).From the years 1980, the IROC was especially limited to a fight between pilots of the American championships. Taking into account the cars used (of " type; stock-car"), the large majority of successes returned to pilots of NASCAR.
In reasons of financial problems, the IROC was not organized in 2007. It is not known yet if it is about a temporary or final interruption.
