History
In 1917, a group of Portland cement nursery gardeners had the idea to create an American rosery of tests. There were in Portland a group of impassioned volunteers and 30 kilometers of streets bordered of rose trees, essentially since the Lewis exposure & Clark of 1905. Portland cement was already known like the “City of the pinks” and that was only to reinforce its reputation. Between the Parks and Re-creation of Portland cement and the American Pink Society , the garden quickly became a reality.Jessie Currey, president at the time of the Portland' S Pink Society (Company of the Portland cement pinks), launched a petition so that the city becomes during the First World War a sure harbor for the hybrid rose trees created in Europe. The amateurs of pinks feared that these single plants can be destroyed because of war. The foreign obtenteurs sent many countries of the rose trees to make them test and the garden had an immediate success. Nowadays, Portland is the only town of North America which can decree distinctions with the pinks of quality of the whole world.
