International Gothic

the international Gothic is the name given in 1862 to Vienna, to indicate the common style of Western and central Europe around 1400. Historically, this time marks a rupture in the Moyen-âge.

The Gothic style international was born from a ceaseless exchange of artistic ideas between various European centers like Paris, Florence, etc

This style is characterized by its preciosity, its smoothness. In the Painting as in the sculpture, the characters are gracious, and do not translate particular emotion: they are serious.

Had with the fact that the purchasers of the tables are not only any more the Christian Church, one forsakes the religious topics for scenes of kinds. The prospect makes its appearance, but is yet only one outline. The tables are much more realistic, the artists not wanting more to represent one idea or a symbol but rather reality. They are also inspired in the colors chosen for their works (surtour colors primanires) by marvellous illuminations which one found in Ireland
