International Code of botanical nomenclature

The international Code of botanical nomenclature (CINB) defines and enacts the rules of development and priority of the scientific names allotted to the organizations “considered as plants” , although while not being all according to the current criteria, of which the Champignons.

The first version of the Code was born in 1867 at the time of the Congress of botany of Paris (laws of Candolle, written in French language).

Since 1952 the official name of the Code is the International Code off Botanical Nomenclature ( ICBN ). Since the Code of Berlin of 1988, ICBN is only written in British English. The translations are prepared and published separately, and do not make authority.

The Code of Vienna (2006)

The last version of the Code is that of the XVIIe international Congress of botany which was held with Vienna from July 17th to 23rd 2005. The Vienna Code (in English) was published by International Association for Plant Taxonomy in 2006, Regnum Vegetabile 146 , A.R.G. Gantner Verlag KG. ISBN 0080-0694.

The Code of Saint Louis

The previous model (now replaced by the Vienna Codes ) is the International Code off Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN) adopted during XVIe Congrès international of botany held with Saint-Louis, Missouri in July - August 1999. It replaces the Code of Tokyo , published six years before following XVe Congrès International of Botany of Yokohama.

The original version paper of the International Code off Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN) known as of Saint-Louis was published in 2000, in the review Regnum Vegetabile . It is accessible on line on the site from the International Code off Botanical Nomenclature.

It was published under the direction of: W. Greuter, with the collaboration of J. McNeill, F.R. Barrie, H.M. Burdet, V. Demoulin, T.S. Filgueiras, D.H. Nicolson, J.E. Skog, PC Silva, P. Trehane, N.J. Turland, and D.L. Hawksworth

The International Association for Seedling Taxonomy (Vienna, Europe), authorizes and recommends its translation in French, among the “nonofficial” versions. It is now available as well as the versions in German, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Slovak.

French version of the Code of Saint Louis

The French version was carried out in 2002 within the framework of the projects of the Network Tela Botanica (Version 1.1 of the 26 févier 2004). It was translated by: Valéry Malécot and Romieg Soca. The relecteurs were: Michel Chauvet, Guy Redeuilh and Jacques Florence
