Intermetallic

A Alloy form an intermetallic with certain compositions and conditions of pressure. It is about an alternation of phases which form a periodic structure. Initially, the intermetallic alloys were formed Précipité S in a more complex alloy (for example in super-alloys at base Nickel like the Inconel S). These precipitates play a big role in the mechanical reinforcement of the alloys (Age hardening). Thereafter, these phases were isolated, characterized, and one started in the Années 1960 to use them like massive component of parts and either like minor phase.

Because of chemical order, these alloys become deformed rather badly plastically: the chemical order having to be preserved, displacement on the level of the Dislocation must be of two atoms instead of only one usually. Dislocations are often dissociated and seem two dependant dislocations; one calls them of this fact of the “superdislocations”. Their mechanical properties are thus often appreciable

Crystalline symmetry and notation

When one looks at a mesh without paying attention to chemical nature, one sees arising a crystalline Structure; however, because of chemical alternation, the real structure can be different.

For example, in the case of the Ferroaluminium B2, one has seemingly a structure Cubique with body centered, but the alloy has actually a structure simple Cubique.

To take into account this “chemical superstructure”, one often uses the notation '' Strukturbericht ''.
