Interlaken

Interlaken (in French the Interlacings ) is a commune of the Canton of Bern, in Suisse.

Geography

Its geographical position, between the lakes of Thoune and Brienz, is at the origin of its name. With the common neighbors of Matten and Unterseen, it forms a named agglomeration cash Bödeli 14  424 inhabitants.

History

The city developed starting from XIIe century around a convent of Augustins founded about 1130.

At the XIXe century, the world of the mountain, described in texts of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Felix Mendelssohn or Lord Byron, makes run the first tourists in the Bernese Oberland. The construction of the way-of-iron of Wengen, in 1893, and of that of the Jungfrau, 1898 with 1912, gives an additional rise to the young station. The construction of hotels transforms the aspect of the locality.

Tourism

  • the station of Interlaken has a tourist fame of long time. Among its famous and unconditional customers appeared already Goethe, Lord Byron and Felix Mendelssohn.
  • There are two funiculars which go up since Interlaken towards Heimwehfluh (to the accesses of Interlaken West) and Harder (the station is at a few hundred meters of the station CF of Interlaken Ost). In Heimwehfluh you will find an exposure of trains minitatures, a restaurant as well as a place of plays for the children and a track of toboggan of summer. Harder offers to you another restaurant with a splendid sight on Interlaken, the two lakes and the area of Jungfrau.
  • Mystery Park, a single amusement park which presented insoluble enigmas but nevertheless real of our world. It closed on November 19th, 2006 for lack of visitors.
