Interdisciplinary research programme on the environment
The interdisciplinary Programme of research on environment (P.I.R.E.N.) is a French research program on the problems of Environnement and Écologie, launched by CNRS and associating various institutions and disciplines.
National level, created in 1990.
The PIREN-Seine is a grouping of research whose objective is to develop, starting from measurements of ground and modelings, an overall vision of the operation of the system formed by the hydrographic network of the Seine, its catchment area and the human society which invests it.
The basin from the Seine, 12% of the national territory, supports the quarter of the population of France, a third of its agricultural production and industrial, and more half of its river traffic.
The ecological operation of the whole of the river system and its modeling, since the bacteria to fish, are based on the detailed study of the physical, chemical and biological processes of the mediums. The models developed by the PIREN-Seine simulate the ecological and biochemical variations of the hydrosystème, since the brooks to the entry of the estuary.
The PIREN-Seine belongs to the network of the Zones Workshops installation by CNRS. It gathers teams of CNRS, ENSMP, INRA, CEMAGREF, CEREVE and various Universities and Universities.
Work is undertaken with the assistance of the majority of the public or deprived actors of the management of water in the basin Seine-Normandie (AESN, SIAPP, IIBRBS, DIREN, SEDIF, VNF, SAGEP, Eaux and Force, UNPG).
