Interdependent cartridges

Launched by the collective ASAH since 2002, Interdependent the Cartouches operation makes it possible at many solidarity associations international to collect funds while taking part in a vast program of recovery of the cartridges of worn printers.

A gesture of Solidarity

This operation aims to help humanitarian associations in their daily work. It enables them to find a funding source to some extent of their projects or their operation.

The operation proposes:

- a national collecting system

- the recycling of the cartridges in the respect of the environmental standards in force in France

- a clear and coherent communication

- a single recyclor

- simple means and effective so that humanitarian associations can release from the funds.

For the first time, a domestic network, made up exclusively of humanitarian associations, was formed to collect these cartridges, their resale making it possible to finance projects of international solidarity. To date more than 70 ONG take part in the operation (list of the points relay).

An environmental gesture

In France, nearly 190 million cartridges to laser writer or jets of ink are consumed per annum! And, although they are among the products simplest to develop Electric and Electronic Products (PEE), more than 80% of these cartridges are thrown, and incinerated most of the time.

The level of the market of the cartridges of 2nd life (recycled at least once) reaches only 10% in France, far behind Germany with 20% or the United States with 30%!

The companies of recycling repurchase the empty cartridges of printers (sorted or not), in order to reinstate them in the distribution network.

How it goes

It acts above all of a work of collaboration utilizing the solidarity of each one. Each association is given the responsability to collect worn cartridges in its entourage. For that, it must set up points of relay accessible to the private individuals who will come to deposit their empty cartouches there.

Currently, there exists nearly 150 points relay in France and Belgium (List of the points relay).

Associations can also found contacts privileged with companies or territorial collectivities (town halls…) to collect cartridges.

When the stock of worn cartridges is sufficient (less than one hundred in general), associations can launch a removal directly starting from their “space ESA” on Internet site.

The recyclor is then automatically warned and sends a conveyer as soon as possible (and according to the availabilities that you informed) to collect free at the point indicated.

Once sorted and developed, the recyclor carries out a credit transfer on the account of association (without forwarding by ASAH) corresponding to the value of the batch of cartridge.

Treatment of the cartridges

After reception and sorting of the batches, the cartridges can 2 types of operations then:

- A valorization of the parts for re-employment (recycling) This valorization consists in recovering some components and in 80% of the cases, by more complex operations to give completely to nine, to renovate, remanufacturer, and to recondition the cartridges to give them on sale.

- An energy valorization for the cartridges nonwhich can be recycled or already recycled. Already recycled cartridges beforehand or not which can be recycled (according to the type of cartridge, its state of conservation…) are re-used like fuel and are used as energy source. But all that in a maximum of environmental precautions.

- You represent an association with humane goal

The operation is made to help you to finance your projects. To become member of the operation, it is enough for you to sign the charter of partnership, to provide us some supporting documents (statutes, assessments of activities and financial, bank account number…) and to pay 20€ for the overheads. After acceptance of your candidature, we will provide you the necessary tools with the management of your “space ESA”, which will enable you to organize the collection in the name of Interdependent the Cartouches operation.

- You are a private individual

Simplest is to deposit your cartridges directly at the point of deposit nearest to on your premise: it does not matter the quantity, the cartridges can be mixed.

You can also help us while speaking about this operation around you (charity associations, companies, schools, territorial collectivities…) and by making publicity for Our Internet site A means even more active is to become a point relay. For that, it is necessary to be able to store a minimum of a hundred cartridges. To become a point relay, you should choose one of associations of the network with which to give the benefit of recycling (or failing this with ASAH) or to make so that your favorite association adheres to the operation, signs our charter and can in its turn organize the collection of the cartridges.

- You represent companies or a territorial collectivity

Article 2 of the law n°75633 stipulates that " any person who produces or holds waste, under conditions likely to produce harmful effects… is required to ensure some or to make ensure elimination in accordance with the provisions. The waste disposal comprises the operations of collection, transport, storage, sorting and treatment necessary to the recovery of the elements and reusable materials… ”.

The recyclor of Interdependent the Cartouches network is approved ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. He can thus deliver a certificate of assumption of responsibility of your cartridges.

If you have few cartridges (ten), simplest is that you continue to store them. If that poses a problem, you can deposit them at a point relay nearest. If you have the possibility of storing a hundred cartridges, you can come into contact with an association member of Interdependent the Cartouches network which will come directly on your premise to seek them free. If you wish to imply yourselves still more in this interdependent step and if you have a space general public (store, doctor's office…), it is possible to become a point relay.

Still better, it is possible for you to sign a partnership convention of collections of your cartridges with an humanitarian association (of the network interdependent Cartouches ), in order to simplify the methods and the dialog between you. Your engagement is to store some cartridges and to call association when the paperboards of collection are full. The engagement of association is to come to seek them and of you to disencumber some.
