Intelsat
Intelsat, Ltd. is the first service provider of telecommunications by satellites. The company is based in Pembroke, Bermuda and its main offices are with Washington, the United States.
History
The intergovernmental consortium International Telecommunications Satellite Consortium ( Intelsat ) was created on August 20th 1964, associating 11 countries. The purpose of it is to provide telecommunication services international on a nondiscriminative basis.April 6th 1965, the first satelitte Early Bird is placed on geosynchronous Orbite with the top of the Atlantic Ocean by a rocket Delta D.
In 1973, the consortium changes name and gathers 80 countries signatories.
November 30th, 1998, creation of New Skies Satellites N.V to which Intelsat brings 5 satellites in orbit, a satellite in construction, orbital positions and capital.
July 18th, 2001, 37 years after its creation, Intelsat becomes a privately held company.
In August 2004, the company is sold with the funds of investment Madison Dearborn Partners, Apax Partners, Permira and Apollo Management.
July 3rd, 2006, Intelsat finalizes the repurchase of its competitor PanAmSat.
Activities
The company has 51 geostationary satellites, several teleports of which that of Fuchsstadt in Germany.Historically, the satellites of Intelsat were used to provide international connections of the national telephone operators.
Now, the company provides many telecommunication services: diffusion of television channels, radios, voice on IP, services VSAT, interconnection of networks IP.
With these satellites, the company allows the diffusion of the range of satellite channels CanalSat the Caribbean.
