Instituto de España
The Instituto de España is the institution which gathers the eight established official Royal Academies with Madrid; it is formed by the whole of the titular academicians belonging to those. Its objective, according to its statutes, is of " to maintain and tighten the spiritual fraternity of known as the eight Spanish Royal Academies, which must help each other and be complementary for the greatest effectiveness in their tasks and activities, by forming the higher national academic representation in Spain and abroad ".
History
The Instituto de España was created, by the decree of January 1st 1938, with Salamanque; its promoters were Eugeni d' Ors, Pedro Muguruza and Agustín González de Amezúa. Manuel of Falla (member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando) was the first elected president of the Instituto de España , but it did not take possession of the load.In 1942, was appointed president the bishop of Madrid, Leopoldo Eijo there Garay; he was member of the Real Academia Española, and remained in load until in 1963. He succeeded Juan Contreras there López de Ayala, Marquis de Lozoya and member of the Real Academia of Historia, until January 1972. During a few months this year, until its death, Shine Martínez de Irujo, Duc of Alba (consorte) and member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando was president; he was replaced by Manuel Lora-Tamayo which was member of the Real Academia Nacional de Farmacia and which assumed the load until in 1978.
This year, the presidency returned to Fernando Chueca Goitia, member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando and of the Real Academia of Historia. In October 1986 was elected president Miguel Artola Gallego, member of the Real Academia of Historia, which remained at this station until its resignation at the end of 1995. It was replaced in this load by Margarita Salas Falgueras, which is member of the Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas there Naturales and of the Real Academia Española; he succeeded in 2003, the current president, Salustiano del Campo Urbano, member of the Real Academia de Ciencias Morales there Políticas.
Activities
The Instituto de España organizes its activities in the following way:- cycles of conferences.
- courses of Third Cycle.
- specialized publications.
Moreover, the Instituto de España holds three public and solemn sessions at the time of:
- commemoration of its date of foundation.
- the Festival of the Book.
- the opening of the annual Academic Course.

Since October 1979, exists the title of " Miembro Asociado del Instituto de España" , to create bonds between the Instituto de España and the Regional academies, provincial and local; the objective is to in general coordinate the activities of all these Academies for the benefit of the academic activity. Currently in (2006), there are 50 associated Academies.
