Institute of town and country planning and environment of the university of Rheims
The Institute of town and country planning and environment of the university of Rheims (IATEUR) is an institute of Urbanisme which prepares with a Master " Town planning, Installation, Environment ". This professional Master form of the students in town and country planning and town planning since more than thirty years. It also allows the preparation of the contest of territorial Engineer. The formation proceeds on two years and makes it possible to obtain a Master.
Spirit of the formation
The goal of this formation is then to form Chargés with studies which will be three principal competent which are the town planning, the installation and the environment and which are necessary to meet the needs for the urbanization in preoccupations of sustainable development and a safeguarding of the inheritance. This formation privileges the contact with realities of town planning thanks to the majority stake of experts, with the visits of ground, one or more training courses in a Organisme of installation and with the practice of the workshops.
History of the formation
The IATEUR was created in 1971 by Roger Brunet, professor de Géographie, in order to propose a multi-field formation with town and country planning, the town planning and the associating environment of the teachers of letters and Social sciences, of right, economy and natural science and the professionals of installation and town planning.
The IATEUR had at the beginning the statute of common service of the University of Rheims Champagne-Ardenne (U.R.C.A.), and initially prepared with a diploma of University, then was entitled as from 1975 to deliver a Diploma of Specialized Higher learning (OF), national diploma of 3rd cycle to professional purpose, OF Town planning, Aménagement, Environnement.
After dialog with professional environments of town planning in Champagne-Ardenne, and agreement with the objectives of Association for the Promotion of Teaching and Research in Installation and Town planning (APERAU), the formation was increased to two academic years whole making it possible to associate in second year of collective work of workshops and the drafting of an individual report of research. It OF reinforced received in 1985 the National enabling of the Minister of education under the heading “Town planning, Aménagement, Environnement”, enabling renewed into 1990,1995 and 2000. Become in 2000 a Department of the UFR of the Letters and Social sciences, the IATEUR celebrated its 30 years in 2001 by organizing in Rheims a conference on “the town planners and the inheritance”.
It engaged with the unit of the U.R.C.A. in reform LMD and delivers since the re-entry 2004 professional Master, the course “Town planning, Aménagement, Environnement” of the mention “Companies, Espaces, Temps” of Master “Arts, Langues, Lettres, Social sciences”.
Contents of the formation
The IATEUR proposes its training in two years:
The first year makes it possible to constitute a theoretical base in the fields of the Géographie, of the Droit, the Sociologie, the Architecture, the economy and the Environnement.
To be allowed there, it is necessary to be titular of one: - License of Social sciences: Geography, Installation, Social sciences - License of legal sciences or economic: Right, Political science, economy, AES - License of sciences: Life sciences, Sciences of the ground
It is also accessible to the students from the dies from Architecture, of Géomètres, Engineers. The first year and the second year are bound by a training course in a one three months minimum duration company doctor.
The second year aims at into practice putting its assets through practical workshops, consisting in making studies required by real local actors. This second also initiates with research with the production of a report on the topics of the Urbanisme, the Aménagement and the Environnement.
Foreign relations
The IATEUR is active member of two international associations of academic institutes ensuring of the trainings in installation and town planning.

APERAU
After having carried its training cycle at two years, the IATEUR was allowed within APERAU and took an active part in its activities.

AESOP
Marcel Bazin, Director of the IATEUR, were President of AESOP of 1996 to 1998 and Anna Geppert, University lecturer in Installation with IATEUR, is currently one of two deputy French to the Council of the Representatives of AESOP. The network of AESOP provided to the IATEUR of many fulcrums for its voyages of re-entry abroad and various exchanges.
By the means of these two associations, the IATEUR. was integrated into the world network of the schools and institutes of installation and town planning, the Total Planning Education Network Associations (GPEAN) which held a first World congress in Shanghai in 2001 and prepares a new World congress for the summer 2006 in Mexico City.
