the Institute of the Arab world or IMA is located in the middle of the historical Paris, in the 5 {{E}} district (). Opened with the public since December 1987, it was conceived by a group of architects (Jean Nouvel and Architecture-studio) which tried there a synthesis between Arab culture and Occidental culture. The construction of this building although being registered in the policy of great work wanted by François Mitterrand was decided under the septennate of Valery Giscard d'Estaing in 1973, in order to improve the diplomatic relations between the Arab France and Countries.

The northern frontage is turned towards historical Paris, it symbolizes the relation at the city old, present in an allusive way on the frontage.

The southern frontage takes again the historical topics of the Arab geometry in the design of the 240 Moucharabieh S which compose it. These diaphragms open and are closed with each change of hour.
