Institute of protection and nuclear safety

the Institute of protection and nuclear safety (IPSN) was an Institute of the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique (ECA) equipped, since 1990, of a particular status. It gathered approximately approximately 1.400 people, of which two thirds of frameworks. Its budget was approximately 1,5 billion francs including 43% devoted to research.

The IPSN carried out research and expertises for the control of the nuclear risks and their consequences on the man and the environment: safety of nuclear installations, protection of workers of the public and the environment, safety of transport of radioactive materials, controls nuclear matters and sensitive, protection against the acts of ill will.

Acting primarily on behalf of the public authorities, it tied many collaborations with its foreign counterparts.

It is today about the one of the entities of the Institut of Protection against radiation and Nuclear Safety (IRSN), since the fusion of the IPSN with the Office of Protection against the Ionizing rays (OPRI) which took place on February 13rd, 2002.
