Institute of political studies of Toulouse

The institute of political studies of Toulouse (IEP), also called “Sciences Po Toulouse”, is an establishment French public of higher education. Created in 1948, it is located at Toulouse and is attached to the university Toulouse-I.

It belongs to the nine political institutes of studies of France, considered as universities.

History

The establishment was by decree on May 5th, 1948 under the name of Institut of political studies of the university of Toulouse. It takes its current name pursuant to the decree of January 18th, 1969.

It is a public corporation related to administration attached to the university about Toulouse-I. Its statute is fixed by the decree of December 18th, 1989. Its buildings are located street of Well-Dug at Toulouse, opposite the university of Toulouse-I. It is also the only IEP of France to be had a Cell Professional insertion, which aims at proposing a maximum of job offers at the conclusion of the formation of its students. Vis-a-vis the report that the employers ignore the current outlets of the Diploma of Sciences Po following the recent evolutions, the IEP of Toulouse comes to inaugurate its Observatory of Professional insertion (OIP). Iep will celebrate its 60 years in 2008.

At the beginning of September 2007, the Institute of political studies of Toulouse accommodated the 9th biannual congress of the French Association of political science. This scientific demonstration, marked by a strong international opening through in particular the presence of the American association of political science (APSA), gathered nearly 600 participants.

Entrance examination

Rate of success in first year borders the 9%. The six Institutes of political studies of Aix-en-Provence, Lyon, Strasbourg, Lille, Rennes and Toulouse will organize a common contest of entry in first year as from 2008. The direct access in second and third year is also possible.

Course

To the re-entry 2004, its course was extended to five years within the framework of the reform “LMD”. This new course is thus articulated in three times:

The first cycle

the first two years, to character general practitioner, are devoted to the basic general culture and with the teaching of the political studies, presence of a preparatory vocation and pluridisciplimaire for the prmiére year, in second year, it is a question of confirming the formation and of choosing dominant: political economy, political History, political Sociology, constitutional Law and Administrative law, political Philosophy, Political science, urban Geography, political Sociology, etc

From the re-entry 2007, the high ones of the iep bénéfecient partnership established by their institute with Esc Toulouse, considered business school, thus at the time of the second six-month period, the high ones of second year of the iep follow one week of course to the esc Toulouse and conversely.

the third year is devoted to mobility set of themes: academic or professional, or with the preparation of a license of public administration.
the two last years are those of the Master (M1 and m2), the accent is put on the acquisition of specific and flexible competences,

Preparation with the contests

The IEP also prepares with the administrative Concours S (National school of administration, territorial public function). Two preparation centres with the contests exist with the IEP: a preparation center with the high public office directed by Delphine Espagno, university lecturer in public law, a Preparation center with the general administration directed by Alain Sorbara, university lecturer in public law. The institute also shelters a preparation center with the military contests (police stations of the Armies, air and sea, military special Ecole).

Equal opportunity project

Following the bill voted in 2006 at the National Assembly, the iep of Toulouse established a partnership with the vice-chancellorship of the area Midi Pyreenées. This dispostif makes it possible to support the access to the universities colleges coming from a underprivileged medium or being provided education for in a college classified zep.
