Institute of political studies of Rennes

The institute of political studies of Rennes , called “Sciences Po Rennes”, is an establishment French public of higher education created in 1991, located at Rennes and attached to the university of Rennes-I. It is one of two more recent of the nine political institutes of studies of France, and it forms for this reason part of the universities.

History

The establishment is created by decree the June 13rd 1991, at the same time as IEP of Lille.

It is a public corporation in administrative matter attached to the university of Rennes-I. Its statute is fixed by the decree of December 18th, 1989.

The buildings of the IEP are located at the n° 104 of the boulevard of the Duchess-Anne, in the buildings of an old teacher training school teachers.

  • 1991-1999 : Marcel Morabito, lawyer publicity agent, today professor with the IEP of Paris after having been vice-chancellor of the academy of Martinique then of Grenoble
  • 1999-2004: Tanneguy Larzul, lawyer publicity agent, today vice-chancellor of the academy of Amiens
  • Since 2004: Erik Nephew, political economist and sociologist

Schooling

The entrance examination is common with IEP of Toulouse. Rate of success oscillates around 10%.

The schooling proceeds in five years.

The first year is pluridiciplinaire and makes it possible high to control a base of general knowledge in the whole of the material taught with the IEP.

The second year consists of a choice of sections, between organization and Business management (GEO) called: Economy and finances (Écofi) , Public service (SP), and Policy and company (POSO).

The third year proceeds abroad and can be a stay of studies in a university partner or a training course of training lasting between six and ten months). An obligatory training course, one six weeks minimum duration, must be carried out between the third and the fourth year.

In fourth year, specialization continues with a choice of option.

The fifth year is diplômante and the rank of master is conferred to the graduates. The offer of diploma is being widened.

The preparation center with the ÉNA - directed by Jacques Caillosse, public law professor with Paris-II, generally obtains good performances with the entrance examination to the National school of administration (ÉNA), with three or four allowed students each year. This preparation center also makes it possible to integrate the National institute of the territorial studies (INET) of Strasbourg and the École of the high studies in public health (EHESP) of Rennes.

Masters

To date, the IEP of Rennes counts 7 formations delivering the rank master or the diploma of master.

Master ISUR Engineering of the Urban Services in Networks in the Developing countries directed by Pablo Diaz;

Master MPE Management of the Written press directed by Patrick Le Floch;

Master A.E.P.E: Action and Public spaces in Europe directed by Patrick Hassenteufeul and Philippe Garraud;

Master E.A.P.T: Expertises on the Territorial Public action, directed by Philippe Leroy;

Master European Policies;

Master Journalism in the public space directed by Roselyne Ringoot;

Master Management of the Risks and Quality;

Library

The IEP of Rennes comprises in its buildings a library created in 1991 and which bears the name of Jacques Fauvet, former director of the newspaper Le Monde which made gift at the information center of most of its funds personnel.

In the middle of the library throne still a superb oak planted by the pupils of the teacher training school in 1889 to celebrate the first centenary of the French revolution.
