Institute of political studies of Bordeaux
The institute of political studies of Bordeaux , also called “Sciences Po Bordeaux”, is an establishment French public of higher education created in 1948, now located on the university campus Pessac, with eight kilometers of the downtown area of Bordeaux, and attached to the university Montesquieu Bordeaux-Iv. It is one of new the political institutes of studies of France, and it forms for this reason part of the universities. One enters to Sciences Po Bordeaux by the means of a selective contest. (8 to 9% of success)
History
The establishment is created by decree the May 4th 1948 under the name of institute of political studies of the university of Bordeaux; Maurice Duverger becomes its first director. He obtains the statute of public corporation and takes his current name pursuant to the decree of January 18th, 1969.The institute counted among its teachers the historian and sociologist Jacques Ellul and future the minister, general secretary of the Council of Europe and vice-president of the European Parliament Catherine Lalumière. Until 1967, it was installed with Bordeaux even, at the n° 4 of the street of the Marshal-Joffre, sits current of the Magistrates' court of Bordeaux.
It is a public corporation in administrative matter attached to the university Montesquieu Bordeaux-Iv. Its statute is fixed by the decree of December 18th, 1989. Its current director is Vincent Hoffmann-Martinot since the month of June 2007.

Course
The studies, which lasted three years until in 2002, were extended to five years following the European model “LMD”. The year 2005 mark the last phase of the reform; the second year became the obligatory year of mobility in France or abroad.Sciences Po Bordeaux constituted of the “integrated Dies”, where the students carry out their schooling on the IEP of Bordeaux and the selected foreign university. This course allows obtaining a double diploma, that of Sciences Po Bordeaux and partner establishment. Five destinations are possible: Cardiff, Coimbra, Grenade, Stuttgart and Turin. Moreover, course IEDG allows obtaining Russian Magistratura of the University of the Friendship of the People of Moscow.
Admission
The students are allowed on contest, which does not require special preparation, with Bac + 0, Bac + 1 and Vat + 3. The tests are three:-
For the admission in first year with Bac + 0:
- a composition on a topic of topicality;
- a test of history and geography;
- a test of living language.

For the admission in first year with Bac + 1:
- an essay of general culture on a topic of topicality;
- a test of speciality to be chosen between: constitutional law and political institutions, economy, geography, history, mathematics and statistics;
- a test of living language.

For the admission in third year with Bac + 3:
- an essay on a topic of topicality;
- a test of living language;
- a test of speciality to be chosen between: private law, right public, economy, ethnology, geography, management, history, foreign civilization, sociology.
The access to the International Dies is possible in Bac + 0 and Bac + 1 on selection.
The first cycle
The first year is one year of initial training, acquisition of the work methods and reinforcement of the foreign languages.The second year allows an obligatory stay of studies in a foreign university by making validate this year by obtaining sixty appropriations ECTS, or a year of studies in a French university other that the IEP.
The third year is one year of consolidation and orientation for choice of the masters.
The master
The fourth year is divided into a joint base and a specialization reinforced by the installation of four sections:- Administration and Political public administration (AGP),
- , company and communication (PSC),
- International studies (I.E.(internal excitation)),
- Business management and organizations (GEO).
The fifth year continues specialization. Stage S are carried out between the fourth and the fifth but also during the fifth year. For the courses directed towards the research, the training courses are replaced by memories intended to allow the entry the doctoral School of political science of Bordeaux.
Preparation with the administrative Contest S
In accordance with its original vocation, the IEP contributes to the formation of the frameworks of the public service, as well through its initial training as by its preparations with the contests of the administrative framing. Three specific preparations exist, accessible in initial training (after the diploma, a license or a master) or in continuing education (employees, civils servant):- the preparation center with the general administration (CPAG) for the contests of category has;
- preparation with the ÉNA for the National school of administration;
- preparation with the aggregation and the CAPES of economic scenes and social.
Community life
Community life of the establishment is animated by the Office of pupils (BDE), the Sports association (AS), Erasmix (association Erasmus), Pop Art (artistic association, around eight clubs), the Club of enology, the Small Courts (cinematographic association), Bandaged It (group of music).One finds also newspapers and militant associations such as Extension (the newspaper of the IEP), the Bridge of Arts (LPDA), Mie of bread and democracy (newspaper satirical general practitioner), Deka Ewe (Togolese association free , cross Regards (Group of study and reflection on the world arabo-Moslem]]), Left wings (students of left), UNEF Sciences Po Bordeaux (9 elected officials with the Board of directors), or UDF Sciences Po. DROP is the association of the republican line students of sciences Po (facebook group).
Lastly, the students can take part throughout the year in various sports events among which the Critérium inter-IEP and since 2005 a Spring station-wagon . Activities are in addition organized by the BDE (evenings, weekend of integration and official reception of end of the year).
