Institute of political studies of Aix-en-Provence

The institute of political studies of Aix-en-Provence , called “Sciences Po Aix”, is a public corporation French of higher education created in 1956, located at Aix-en-Provence. It is one of new the political institutes of studies of France and it forms for this reason part of the Universities.

History

The establishment is created by decree the March 27th 1956 under the name of institute of political studies of the university of Aix-Marseilles. Its first director was Paul de Geouffre of Pradelle. He takes his current name pursuant to the decree of January 18th, 1969.

It is a public corporation in administrative matter attached to the Université of Aix-Marseilles-III - Paul Cézanne. Its statute is fixed by the decree of December 18th, 1989. Its buildings are those of old the Université of Provence, street Gaston-of-Saporta, vis-a-vis the cathedral Saint-Saver. Its budget is of 3,4 million euros.

In 2006, the IEP celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. It also accommodated and gained the annual edition of the Critérium inter-IEP.

On Saturday, September 22, 2007, Philippe Séguin (President of the Court of Auditors) is elected Chairman of the board of Sciences Po Aix and it succeeds thus Mr. Proust, Minister for the principality of Monaco.

Entrance examination

The IEP has been associated for a few years with the IEP of Lyon and of Grenoble in a common entrance examination, Sciences Po the Rhone-Alp-Mediterranean, whose selectivity borders the 8%.

The note obtained with the baccalaureat is taken into account and the candidate must moreover pass three written tests: topicality, foreign language and history. The test relating to a work was removed as from 2007.

The candidate carries out at the time of his inscription to the contest a preferential classification between the three IEP; the distribution of the candidates is done starting from general classification according to the choices.

The direct access in second and fourth year (since 2006) is also possible.

The six Institutes of political studies of Aix-en-Provence, Lyon, Strasbourg, Lille, Rennes and Toulouse will organize a common contest of entry in first year as from 2008.

Teaching

The academic cycle is there five years of which a year abroad in training course or university. A Franco-German course in partnership with the university of Freiburg is proposed to the students as of the first year.

Like all the IEP, the IEP of Aix in Provence exempts an mainstream education of quality centered on four principal matters (History, General culture, Économie, Droit) which with for objective to form the future managers of Company and Administration.

In second year, the student is invited to choose among 5 sections:

The third year is carried out abroad, in training course or university, which gives to the students of the IEP a strong international dimension , major asset in an increasingly globalized economy.

In fourth year the student chooses among the 6 sections suggested:

Among the various sections suggested by the IEP, the section UNDERTAKEN attempts to form the future administration executives and of company, in France and abroad. It also makes it possible to integrate the universities of trade thereafter (HEC, ESCP, ESSEC, EDHEC, EM Lyon, etc). From teaching rich and varied that it exempts - the principal courses are: International finance, International Economic Governorship, Accounts Department and Analyze Financial Company, Marketing, Droit of the Businesses, Economic Public Droit and Economic Intelligence - this section makes known essential to the trades of business management. It is besides in the private sector that the majority of the pupils resulting from this section is directed.

  • Section Information and Communication (known as Com' Information);

In Fifth year, the Student specializes among 12 specialities suggested. Within the framework of reform LMD, starting from the re-entry 2007, the pupils are obliged to carry out their fifth year within the IEP.
