Institute of high studies in public administration

The Institut of high studies in public administration (IDHEAP) is the Swiss Institute of higher university formation which prepares with the highest functions of the public administrations and parapublic of the country. Accredited by the Swiss Confederation and with international level (EAPAA), IDHEAP is also an independent observer and a supplier of councils recognized by the administrations, the political officials and the Confédération. The IDHEAP, finally, is a research center interdisciplinary, fundamental and applied, taking part in all scientific independence in the domestic networks and international of research to the public sector.

The IDHEAP concentrates on the study of the Public administration, an interdisciplinary field (in English Public Administration) aiming at developing the scientific knowledge on the control of the public affairs and the direction of the institutions which of it are responsible. This knowledge is based on several disciplines of the Social sciences and social, like the Droit, the economy, the Management and the Political science, adapted to specificities of the public sector and parapublic. The IDHEAP is the only Swiss academic institute completely dedicated to this important field of knowledge.

On the level of teaching, the IDHEAP proposes a Master off Public Administration (MPA), diploma post-rank of Third cycle, which represents the equivalent of the Master off Business Administration (MBA) for the public sector.

Vision

With the interface between theory and practical of the public administration, the IDHEAP is the national pole of excellence contributing to the analysis of the changes of the public sector and a better governorship of the Rule of law on all its levels, in full co-operation with its Swiss and foreign university partners.

Mission

With the service of its students, public sector and company as a whole, the IDHEAP has triple mission which results from its vision:

  • University education accredited on the level master and postmaster, like continuing education of quality of the elected officials and public frameworks;

  • Basic research and applied in public administration recognized at the national and international level, and developed in the Swiss public sector;
  • independent Expertise and council appreciated by the public agencies agents and enriching teaching and research.

Founders

The IDHEAP was created in the shape of a “Foundation for an Institute of high studies in public administration”. The initiator is Enrico Bignami, former managing director of Nestlé and creator of the IMEDE, become since IMD, with Lausanne - Ouchy. In the number of the founders appear the State de Vaud, the Université of Lausanne, the federal Polytechnic school of Lausanne and the Association of the Friends of the IDHEAP.

  • 1982 Convention with the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and beginning of the courses on October 5th with the BFSH 1

Future of the Institute

In August 2006, the IDHEAP launched a contest of architecture for the transformation of an old industrial building which should become, since 2008, the future seat of the Institute. This removal will make it possible the IDHEAP geographically to approach the campus of the Université of Lausanne.
