Institute of Komarov botany
The Institut of botany Komarov is the principal institution of Russia in the field of the Botanique. It is located at Saint-Pétersbourg, and is baptized according to the name of the Russian botanist Vladimir Leontjevich Komarov (1869-1945).
The collections of the institute consist of Jardin S interiors and outsides which accommodate 120.000 species and varieties of Plante S, as well as Herbarium of more than seven million specimen of Plante S and mycète S. This collection is most important of Russia and appears among three more important of the world.
The history of the institute starts in 1714, when the tsar Pierre Large the ordered the creation of a pharmaceutical garden on the island of Vorony to cultivate medicinal plants. The garden was reorganized in 1823 and was renamed imperial Botanical garden , then in 1913 imperial Botanical garden Pierre Large the . After the Revolution of 1917, it became the Botanical garden of the USSR , and it was transferred in 1930 pennies the jurisdiction from the Academy of Science from Russia, then Academy of Science of Soviet Union. The following year, the Botanical garden and the botanical Museum of the Academy of Science amalgamate to form the Institute of botany, which is now the Institute of Komarov botany, affiliated to the Academy of Science of Russia.
