Characters
- Inspector Gadget : He lives residential suburbs of Métroville, in France, where its ancestors, originating in London, emigrated. Always vêtu of large impermeable and a hat gray, and equipped (following an accident) with multiple gadgets, it shines especially by its great distraction. Systematically confusing the malicious S and the nice ones, escaping by chance from multiple attacks, being mistaken constantly in the use of its gadgets, its force humorous makes of it a character very attaching to which a young televiewer can be easily identified.
-
Sophie : She is the young person (she would be 12 years old) niece of Gadget and lives with him for a reason not explained in the series. She follows Gadget in all her missions, generally without her agreement. Genius in data processing, it always walks with a book which contains a computer with the multiple possibilities, which seem surprisingly credible with our glance of the 21e century. She is also equipped with a special watch which enables him to communicate with Finot.
-
Finot : It is the dog of Gadget and follows it closely in all the missions. Although he does not speak, he is able, such Flipper the dolphin in his series, to have a communication with Sophie, thanks to a microphone and a camera which leave its collar. It is able to go on its posterior legs and to put clothing to be made pass for human.
-
Chief Gontier : It with the aspect of the police chief such as it could be imagined by the French at the beginning of the Années 1980: small, almost bald person with a large moustache and the pipe with the mouth. Its imagination to melt in the decoration at the beginning of each episode in fact a character impossible to circumvent of the series, very appreciated fans. Each time, its secret messages explode to him with the nose. At the end of the episode, it comes to congratulate Gadget.
-
Doctor Gang : He is the person in charge of criminal organization M.A.D, which means in English " fou". But it is in fact the initial ones of " Malicious Dreadful and Diaboliques". One sees in the episodes only his gantées iron hands, the remainder of his body being dissimulated by the file of his seat. It has a very particular voice, almost metal, which makes tremble fear its agents. It communicates with them since its screen of computer, from where it can follow the evolution of its plans machiavelic. It seldom moves, and if it does it, it is always on board its car, MADmobile, transformable in the plane and submarine. Its most expensive dream is to kill Gadget, which makes hood all its blows. He flees at the end of each episode by howling " The next time, I will have you, Gadget! ".
-
Madchat : It is the cat of Doctor Gang. It always remains beside the arm of its Master, laughing with each time it has a diabolic idea. Very player, it seeks sometimes to obstruct it by catching his hand to him or an object that this one is handling. Unfortunately, it is used often as scapegoat with its Master when his plans fail, which passes its nerves by sending it valser or while typing to him above, so that it took the practice to move away from him as soon as it starts to be irritated. It seems to include/understand what its Master says, who often tells him the details of his plan.

Origins
The pilot episode of Inspector Gadget , become the episode 14 of the series thereafter, proceeded in a winter sports resort. The inspector Gadget carried a moustache then there (what was not found in the series, in order to make disappear the resemblance to the inspector Clouseau whose is inspired the Gadget inspector) and the Gontier Chief entrusted three different missions to him (against one by episode in the series). The characters of Doctor Gang, Sophie and Finot were already present.
Course of an episode
The episode begin with a parody from the beginnings from episodes from Mission impossible . Such Jim Phelps, the Gadget inspector goes in a place pain-killer to recover paper containing his order of mission. This one is given to him in clean hands by its person in charge, the Gontier Chief, always disguised or hidden in a narrow object. Gadget reads with high voice its order always finishing by the sentence “this message car-will be destroyed…” and gives again paper with Gontier, which, inserted in its hiding-place, can nothing make and receives the explosion in full face.Gadget returns at his place, and explains to his/her Sophie niece why it must leave and cannot take it along. Worry, this one asks has Finot the dog of the family, to follow Gadget, and itself manages to be able to follow it by far.
Arrived on the ground, Gadget is mistaken people: Finot is besides generally the first marked one. (he is not recognized in spite of its disguise seldom more sophisticated than a hat and impermeable)
During this time, Doctor Gang seeks by all the means to kill Gadget, thanks to the whole of his agents, to which Gadget generally grants all its confidence.
It is finally Sophie who, thanks to her deliver-computer and with the indications of Finot, ends up solving the business and to call the reinforcements to stop the gangsters.
At the end of the episode, Gadget is then congratulated by the Gontier Chief, then coward a sentence of the type “it is odd, the criminal whom you have just stopped resembles to the nice grandfather much with which I spent the day”, which makes laugh Sophie and Finot. Since his office or his vehicle, Doctor Gang promises to be avenged.
Before the credits of end, one often sees Gadget within a domestic framework with Sophie. It realizes of something of important and the fact knowledge to the televiewer.
