Innocent XIII
Michelangelo Conti (May 13rd 1655, Polished meadows of Rome, - March 7th 1724, Rome) is elected pope the May 8th 1721 under the name of Innocent XIII (in Latin Innocentius XIII , in Italian Innocenzo XIII ).
Born in an aristocratic family, Polished Conti, dukes of and Guadagnolo, descending from the family of the Innocent pope III, Michelangelo Conti it makes studies with the Roman College before entering the Roman Curia. In 1695, it was promoted Archevêque Tarse and Apostolic nuncio of Lucerne. In 1706, Clément XI granted the cardinal hat of to him. With the Conclave of 1721, it was elected pope. In memory from Innocent III, one of its ancestors, it took the name from Innocent XIII.
In 1723, it in vain protested against the invasion by the emperor Charles VI of the duchies of Parma and Plaisance, territories under pontifical suzerainty.
