Initiative relating to the voyages in the Western hemisphere
Initiative relating to the voyages in the Western hemisphere is an American protocol intended to reinforce the safety of the travellers in the Western Hémisphère. It will be binding on all the travellers, including the natives of the United States moving between Americas, the Caribbean and Bermuda, to be provided with a passport or another accepted document, proving the identity and the nationality of the carrier, to enter to the United States or to return there.
This constitutes a modification compared to the former conditions in this field. The purpose of this program is to reinforce safety at the borders and to facilitate the entry in the United States of the American nationals and the legitimate foreign visitors.
This initiative will be applied by stages, by notifying the public concerned as a long time in advance as possible, in order to enable him to conform to the new directives. The calendar proposed will be the following:
-
December 31st, 2006 - the conditions are applied to all displacements by air and maritime with destination or coming from Canada, of Mexico, of Central America and the South, the Caribbean and Bermuda.
- December 31st, 2007 - the conditions are extended to all crossings of border, by terrestrial way as well as air and maritime.
