Ingram MAC
MAC is the abbreviation of Military Armament Company (undertaken the armemement military one). This company named thus compact Pistolet-mitrailleur S developed as of the beginning of the year 1970 with the ambition to constitute an alternative to the Colt M1911 in its role of secondary weapon.
Developed by Gordon Ingram, it is often known under the simple name of its creator: Ingram . Many copies were produced by other companies, including apart from the the United States.
It is about a weapon very compact and simple to high rate of shooting which was a certain success near the antiterrorist units, in particular for the attacks on the aircraft where its compactness, its firepower and the reduced perforation of some of its ammunition are particularly adapted. MAC and its perfectly parallelepipedic short silhouette made a brilliant career with the Télévision and the Cinéma, generally in the hands of the malicious ones. This notoriety was however not accompanied by an important business success because MAC forever which been able to thus obtain from sufficient military customers declared bankruptcy in 1976.
This weapon allows the automatic shooting or step by step is equipped with a mechanism actuated by the retreat, the shooting is effecué open cylinder head. It is equipped with a stick of shoulder of small size, insufficient to allow a stable and comfortable shooting, and of a strap in front of the weapon which poorly fulfills the role of second frontal handle. All these factors contribute to make the weapon controllable with much difficulty in the absence of an adapted drive. Its Portée practical thus exceeds hardly 25 meters.
The gun is threaded in order to adapt a massive silencer which makes it possible to make the weapon more controllable because it weighs down it but also because it offers the best taken for the second hand. This silencer makes him on the other hand lose the advantage its low length. It has two rooms, first is of a diameter higher than the first (and besides larger than the weapon it even) and reduces the sound so much so that the noise of the cylinder head moving is audible during the shooting. Threading although being originally intended for the silencer also made profitable for a whole range of accessories: compensator of raising, extension of the gun, quiet forgery, frontal handle…
The MAC 10 is confined in 9 mm Parabellum and .45 ACP STATES, respectively using the charger of the Walther MPL and M3A1 Grease gun.
A more compact model called MAC 11 room the .380 ACP STATES. This ammunition of low power is very seldom employed in a machine pistol allows him of a very high rate of shooting, one of fastest for a light weapon.
Like M10, it can be equipped with an important silencer which makes it easier to control.
A version of MAC 11 barrack room in 9 mm Parabellum was also produced, it is about a specific Arme whose carcass is lengthened and who is named M11/9mm.
