The potash is a Minerai, mixture of Carbonate and Chlorure of Potassium, used like Engrais.

In the language running one often employs, wrongly, the term potash like abbreviation of potassium , like potassium sulfate in the place of Sulfate of potassium . In the same way, one uses sometimes the term potash like caustic abbreviation of potash , the Hydroxyde of potassium.

The word potash comes from Dutch “potas” literally “ashes pot”. Indeed, one formerly obtained it by maceration of vegetable ashes in water. The alkaline solution which resulted from it was used as detergent.

The potash was exploited intensively in Alsace, in the surroundings of Mulhouse, 1904 at the end of the 20th century. One uses potash to manufacture soft soaps.

Currently it is the Saskatchewan which is the major exporter in the potash world.
