Infans

The infans , term of Sándor Ferenczi, designates the child who did not acquire the Langage yet, Francization of the Latin infans, infantis , designating very the young child who does not speak. Formed of in - negative prefix and of the participle present of fari “to speak”, this root is found in aphasia, fable, for example.

Ferenczi proposed this term to avoid certain confusions when the psychoanalysts speak children, the language in particular marking a progress in the acquisition of symbolization.

The concept proves to be useful, for example to treat Confusion of the languages , another expression ferenczienne which indicates confusion between unconscious sexuality that the adult vis-a-vis the child expresses, whose request would be made of tenderness.
