Indy grab

A indy grab , generally called indy simply, is a trick of Skateboard. It is an air trick of the category of the grabs during which the skator seizes the medium of his board, between his two feet, on the side where its toes point.

The indy is carried out since the years “70. It is generally used in Rampe (halfpipes,…), although it is also possible to do it in flat (on a flat ground). This grab is one of the basic tricks practice in green” and it is generally combined with rotations, Kicklip S and Heelflip S.

In the beginning, the trick was called Indy Air . Invented by Duane Peters and popularized by Tony Alva, it consisted in making a backside air (180° above a slope, by facing this one) while catching its board on the side of the toes with the back hand. Having made way of skator with skator, the figure gave rise to many alternatives, pushing the limits of the creativity of the skateboarders. One of the most famous alternatives is the Kickflip indy.

The name indy grab appeared because of a lack of knowledge of the distinction between a indy air and a frontside air . The use of this name to name the grab in itself comes from an error from nomenclature. Because it is incorrectly called thus in the Play-video Tony Hawk' S Pro Skater, much of people henceforth call indy the simple fact of catching its board in this manner, without taking account of the direction of rotation, and even if there are no rotations of the whole.
