Industry in Tunisia
The industry in Tunisia contributes for 28,6% of the national GDP and 34% of the Active population in 2006.
It gathers 3 branches:
- manufacturing industry
- nonmanufacturing industry:
- the mines and the energetic sector
- the Construction and the Civil engineering
Their importance is very unequal because each branch contributes to the GDP (2005) for respectively 17,5%,5,9% and 5,2%. In terms of employment, they respectively occupy (2004) 19,3%,1,2% and 13,5% of the active population.

Manufacturing industry
Manufacturing industry is a branch turned towards outside, that it is by its big part in the Exportation S (83,5% in 2005) or the share of foreign assets invested in the Entreprise S. In 2004, out of the 5468 companies more than cash 10 employment, 2360 (43%) are completely exporting.
This branch of Tunisian industry adds up approximately 550.000 employment out of 2,85 million credits.
According to the statistics delivered by the National institute of the statistics and brought up to date in 2005, the active population of the branches of manufacturing industry is distributed as follows:
One thus notes the concentration of the industrial employment in the governorships of the Eastern Littoral with a maximum, in absolute terms, for the Gouvernorat of Sfax (nearly 70.000 employment is 12,7% of manufacturing industry in Tunisia), and, in relative terms, for the Gouvernorat of Monastir (42,1% of the active population).
