Industrial engineering

According to, the American Institute off Industrial Engineers:

“The industrial engineering includes the design, the improvement and the installation of integrated systems. It uses knowledge coming from mathematical, physical and social sciences, as well as the principles and methods suitable for the “genius” or, with the art of the engineer, with an aim of specifying, of predicting and of evaluating the results rising from these systems”

This discipline was introduced in France with the beginning of the year 1990. (In particular thanks to the creation of the ITII Burgundy, 1st school of engineers of Industrial engineering in France)

One can summarize all the fields which touch with the industrial engineering by the sentence: " optimization of the total performances of the entreprise"
