Industrial engineer

In Belgium, the diploma of industrial engineer is allotted in the twenty-three Industrial Institutes of higher learning (ISI) belonging to the High Schools, eleven in the area of French expression and twelve in the area of expression Dutchwoman. The duration of the studies is 5 years in French-speaking area (1st 3 years cycle ECTS; [[Bachelor|bachelor]] + 2nd 2 years cycle ECTS; [[Master|master]]) and 4 years in Dutch-speaking area.

These studies profit from the rank of master in engineerings industrial and title of industrial engineer (title Ing. protected by the State). The previously graduate industrial engineers (1st 2 years cycle + 2nd 2 years cycle) are compared to the new rank. A decree of the government of the French Community of July 6th, 2007 fixes equivalence between the old academic ranks (industrial engineer) and the new academic ranks (master in engineerings indutriel).

The rank is a level of higher learning reached. It is relating to the formation (diploma). The title concerns the accreditation to exert and the civil responsibility, this is why it profits from a particular protection.

There still exists on the labor market of the engineers technicians trained until 1980 (3 years). This formation is also protected by the law.

In Belgium, all the diplomas for the occupation of engineers being recognized by the State, those are worth accreditation with the access to the profession.

The diploma for the occupation of industrial engineer is defended and promoted by the French-speaking Union of Engineers Industriels of Belgium (UFIIB) for those which are formed in French language and by the VIK for those which are formed in language Dutchwoman.

  • Geniuses physique and nuclear power

In the Grand Duche du Luxembourg, the studies of industrial Engineer are organized by the University of Luxembourg (and in the past by STI, Technical Institute of higher learning). The formation is completely similar to those organized by the Belgian higher establishments and is directed towards the access to the profession than with the fundamental rechecherche. The diploma obtained at the University of Luxembourg east directly and obligatorily registered with the register of the titles of Luxembourg higher education. All the titles of engineer are protected in the Grand Duche du Luxembourg, and consequently also that of industrial Engineer. The university of Luxembourg will not continue the training of industrial Engineers, and will deliver its last diplomas for the occupation of industrial Engineer into 2008/2009.

The Luxembourg Association of Engineers Industriels A.S.B.L defends the occupation of industrial Engineer. Here article 5 of its statutes: " Association has the aim of putting forward the role, the responsibility and the place of the profession of its members in the company while applying the principle of solidarity. Association respects the diversity of the professional statutes of its members, their needs and their aspirations."
