Industrial Metal
The industrial metal is a musical genre, sub-genus with crossed industrial Musique and metal, appeared when certain industry groups started to integrate guitars, samplées or not, in their music.
History
The industrial Métal appears in the current one of the years 1980, crossing of the industrial in full evolution, and of the metal which knows its hour of glory. The first groups of industrial music on the occasion had already used the electric guitar in their music, but one could not really speak about a filiation of kinds, the industrial music rejettant the star system which accompanied the heavy metal by the Années 1970. With the evolution of this one, the appearance of new kinds and the hardening of the sounds, it was inevitable that certain groups tested themselves with a hybridization, mixing the sets of themes and the sounds with the industrialist with the instruments and the fury of metal. The first albums of the Swans, Fetus, Ministry, Godflesh, some Voivod, some Die Krupps… give its noble letters to the kind.
Precursors of the industrial rock'n'roll
Emerging from the New Yorkean scene No wave of the beginning of the Years 1980, the Swans produce a punk-rock'n'roll slow and heavy: saturated and distorted guitars, chaotic rates/rhythms and thundering song… quartered between punk origins and a step which attaches them to the industrial scene, they are undoubtedly the first group to deserve the term of industrial rock'n'roll . Fetus, project protean of J.G.Thirlwell, for its part attacks a multitude of kinds, the passer by with its very personal moulinette: part of the resulting compositions concerns this industrial rock'n'roll being born. In France, the representatives of the industrial rock'n'roll are the Treponem Pal.
Fusion with metal
Ministry encases the step in 1988 to them, adding on several titles of the album The Land off Grater and Honey of the guitars definitely influenced by the heavy metal: the following albums come only to confirm the started movement. At the same time, KMFDM takes a turn of the same kind, combining happy the electronic powerful ones with typical fronts of guitar. Coming from the scene metal, Justin Broadrick, ex- Napalm Death founds Godflesh, creating a fusion containing distorted guitars, of low and happy the electronic powerful ones. Founded in 1988, Godflesh will have in particular an influence on the sound of Ministry.
Popularization of the kind
Prolonging these seminal groups, a true scene industrial metal develops with the beginning of the Années 1990, particularly in North America. Many industrial groups tint their compositions of these new sounds, of which groups of foreground such as Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly or Die Krupps. The kind develops with the point to obtain finally a true notoriety as well near the general public as of the public metal with groups such as Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Oomph! or Fear Factory. A whole side of the scene metal is gradually comparable with metal undue money, by ignorance of the remainder of the industrial scene: groups like Strapping Young Stable-lad, Static-X, Rob Zombie or Dope are representative of this tendency. The metal-undue money is probably the only sub-genus of the industrial music which met an abundant public, so much so that the term was canted until including certain groups of crossover or particularly indicating for the public metal any group péchu and using of electronics.
