The department of Indre-et-Loire (37) is one of the French Départements.
History
The department of Indre-et-Loire was created in 1790 during the creation of the French departments. Its territory took again the limits of the old province of Touraine to which was added all the oriental party of the old province of Anjou energy of Bourgueil, on the the Loire, until Castle-the-Vallière in north while passing by the field of Gizeux.
Enfin the town of Richelieu, which was, as of its creation by the cardinal of Richelieu, attached on the administrative, legal and financial level, into the governor of Saumur and the Saumur-native country, was integrated into the very new department of Indre and the Loire in 1790.
On the other hand the oriental party of the old province of Touraine was attached to the department of the Dormouse and Expensive (area of Montrichard) or to the department of Indre (Surroundings of Wall in Brenne and Ecueillé);

Geography
The department of Indre-et-Loire forms today part of the area Center. It is bordering on the departments of Loir-et-Cher, of the Indre, the Vienna, Maine-et-Loire and the the Sarthe.
Climate
The climate of Indre-et-Loire is moderate. The Loire is often used as climatic border between north and south of France. The summers are in rule general rather hot (annual maximum temperature always exceeding 33°C), of températeures higher than 42°C were thus recorded in 1947 and 2003.
Contrary the very low temperatures are rare, seldom going down under the -10°C threshold crossed into 1985/1986 and 1996/1997). The Loire freezes then, one pays thus that at the time one particularly rigorous winter one could cross it to foot. winter 1956. The river carts blocks of ice when the temperature goes down under the -10°C.
Pluviometry is rather weak (of 500 with 700mm per annum), which can generate serious situations of dryness as in 1976,2003 or 2006. Snow is however it rare (not more than 10 days per annum), a height of snow higher than 20 centimetres in open country being regarded as exceptional. However, each year since December 2004, we find at least 15 cm of snow in certain cities and also in the town of Turns even. Into certain village close relations of Castle-the-Vallière (with 25Km of Turns), it fell last year 20 cm from snow, if not more.

Demography
The inhabitants of Indre-et-Loire are called Tourangeaux (by analogy between the current department and the old province of Touraine which corresponded to him). This name which merges with that of the inhabitants of Tours can sometimes carry to confusion, and one knew various attempts to find another toponym with the inhabitants of the department, like Indréloiriens or Indro-ligériens.
