In Music, an individual or a monoplage is a recording runs (in general, less than 10 minutes on the whole), generally containing one or two pieces like " A-side " (face A), often accompanied (S) by several " B-sides " (face B), which is remixes, alternate versions, or other songs nonpresent on the albums of the artist. The majority of individual have only one song in " A" face; , but some have two of them (a famous example is famous individual Beatles, Strawberry Fields For Ever / Penny Lane ), the two titles appearing in an equal way in the title of the individual one. Formerly, with the discs vinyls, there was no piece privileged by a position at the beginning of the disc, not of " track 1" , since one could turn over the disc. The difference between the songs of the face has and the songs of the face B was thus a difference in development. Today, the individual ones on CD present the tracks in a quite precise order. Certain individual were realized under several versions, proposing an order different from the songs (for example, the individual one of the group MUSE Dead Star/In Your World or In Your World/Dead Star ; none of the two songs was published on an album), or in the shape of two CD containing each one a song (for example, the individual one of Kent FF/Vinternoll). The recordings containing more than two new titles are in general not considered the individual ones, but of EP.

The purpose of the principal songs (and sometimes B-sides) of individual come in general from an album (either an album already published, or about to leave), and the publication of individual is in particular to make the promotion of the album. The individual ones not extracted from albums exist too. Typically, two to four individual are extracted from an album, it is exceptional to exceed this limit.

When a Duo leaves individual, it often happens that the song is added to the album of the artist " invité" if this one is republished, or that it appears in a best-of of the invited artist, although it is not reproduced on any of its own albums.

The individual ones often propose a " version radio" or " version single" principal song, different from the original version (for example, the song can be modified to have one duration more adapted to pass to the radio, or the words can be changed for reason of censure, or arrangements can be notably modified in order to correspond to the musical color of the radio had a presentiment of for a possible future diffusion.) The spirit of the song remains generally preserved.
