Thus, between 1951 and 1954 it names the Warriors of Syracuse and finally between 1967 and 1974, it is called Kings de Springfield. Indians on the whole gain seven times the Coupe Calder, reward supreme for the winner of the eliminatory Séries of the LAH including once under the name of Kings.

History

The Edge-Am

Indians begin their way in the professional world of North-American hockey in 1926 while playing in the Canadian-American Hockey League . Indeed, Edge-Am is founded in the town of Springfield and Indians is one of the five initial teams during her creation. The team counts then in her rows of the players like Lester Patrick, Charlie Rayner, Earl Seibert, Cecil Dillon or Ott Heller. Indians will play in Edge-Am until 1932, year when after thirteen matches since the beginning of the season, the league is obliged to suspend its functions

The Grande depression causes thus many concern in the professional leagues of North America and Edge-Am amalgamates with the international Ligue of hockey and the two leagues form together the American-international Ligue of hockey. The league will take its current name, Ligue American hockey, in 1941, after the disappearance of its last Canadian frankness .

Beginnings in the LAH

But before this name change, the frankness from Indians reappears in 1939 under the impulse of the defender high-speed motorboat of the Bruins of Boston of the National league of hockey, Eddie Shore which becomes owner about it. It engages thoroughly in the new frankness and does not hesitate to share its matches between its two teams, causing even a transfer to join the Americans of New York in order to approach Indians. At the end of the season, it takes its retirement of the LNH in order to be devoted to its team with which it will play two more seasons. The style of direction of Shore is often criticized but makes it possible to impose the team for the three decades which will follow.

In spite of the high-speed motorboats of the team like Shore, Fred Thurier, Frank Beisler or Pete Kelly, success flees Indians and it is necessary to wait the season 1941 - 42 to see the team hanging the first place. Unfortunately, the team loses as of the first turn of the series.

The following season, the effort of the the United States for the Second world war is accentuated and the army requisitions the usual skating rink of Indians. Shore then decides to rent the services of its players to the Bisons of Buffalo until in 1946. Despite everything, success always flees the frankness from Shore and this in spite of the new talents of the team which are called Harry Pidhirny and Jim Anderson. Between 1951 and 1954, the team is even delocalized with Syracuse under the name of Warriors of Syracuse but at the time of its return to Springfield, success is sulky always Indians.

Beautiful years

In 1959, Pat Egan is set up at the post of trainer and the team is then affiliated with the Rangers of New York which sends a great number of its players in the frankness. Thus the team counts in her rows of the players of Rangers like Bill Sweeney or the goalkeeper Marcel Paille but also of the players of the talents: Ken Schinkel, Bruce Cline, Brian Kilrea attacks some and the defender Ted Harris, Kent Douglas, No5el Price and Bob McCord. Indians then finish the season in the first place of the league three years of continuation and each time transform the three good seasons into three excellent seasons with the Coupe Calder at the end of the series. During all the matches of the series of these three seasons, the team loses only five matches on the whole. The players of Indians also aspire to the trophies with Sweeney which finishes at the time of the three seasons in the first places of the pointer , Paille has best the statistics of the guards at the time two seasons and the defenders also gain the trophies for the best defenders. The team of Indians then dominates the LAH like any team succeeded forever neither front nor since and the fans mass of evening number after evening to see Indians evolving/moving. Thus, at the time of the season 1960-61 Indians register 344 goals is nearly 100 goals moreover than major the part of the other teams of the league and at the time of the series, they do not lose with only one match.

Hard following days

Even if in 1963, Sweeney defends its title of better pointer of the LAH, the festival is finished for Indians which loses their Paille guard, transferred to Baltimore and they miss the series at the end of a keen fight. The bad continuous master key for the near total of the remainder of the years 1960 with only one qualification in 1966.

In same time, the conflicts between the historical owner of the frankness Eddie Shore and the players are accentuated and following movements of dissatisfaction with its players, Shore sells the rights of the players and place the control of the frankness between the hands from the new frankness from the National league from hockey, the Kings of Los Angeles. The latter re-elect the team: Kings de Springfield . This team made up of Gord Labossiere, No5el Price and Bruce Landon reaches the series then the final of the Coupe Calder in 1970 but is crushed in four matches by the Bisons of Buffalo. Kings will mark the history of the LAH at the time of the following season while becoming the first team having more lost matches than of matches gained in regular season (29 against 35) to gain the Calder Cut.

In 1974, Eddie Shore succeeds in taking again the control of “its” frankness and in the course of season, it gives again with the team her original name like her colors, even if the team does not play any more in her old skating rink, the Eastern States Coliseum but in the Springfield Civic Center. Instigated by this return to the sources, Indians finish fourth of the season but to final manage to gain their fifth Coupe Calder against the Nighthawks de New Haven in five matches. At the end of the following season, Shore ends all the same up selling the frankness putting an end to an old relation of almost forty years with the hockey of Springfield.

The fourteen years which will follow will be complicated for the supporters of Indians with many changes of affiliation with the teams of the National league of hockey as well as many trainers: behind the bench, no trainer will hold more than one season between 1974 and 1988. In the same way for this period, Indians manage to qualify for the series only four times but each time, they are done eliminated as of the first turn.

The years 1990 and last titles

Fortune seems to turn once again to the beginning of the year 1990 with the arrival of the former defender of the LNH Jim Roberts as trainer as a chief of Indians as well as an affiliation with the Islanders of New York. The team carried out with aims by the guards Jeff Hackett and Rick Knickle, this last carrying out eight consecutive matches without defeat, gains the May 18th 1990 her sixth Calder Cut against the Americans of Rochester, favorites of the competition, in six matches.

Following an argument with Islanders in connection with the rights concerning Springfield Civic Center, Indians change affiliation once again and join then the Whalers de Hartford. In spite of the anger of the fans to see the players of Islanders from going away, team 1990-91 of Indians marks once again the history of the LAH by gaining her seventh Calder Cut. Terry Yake, James Black, Chris Tancill and Michel Picard attacks some, John Stevens and Marc Bergevin in defense and Kay Whitmore with aims beats a news and last time Americans of Rochester.

End of the history

For the following season, Roberts and a majority of the team are promoted in the rows of the team of the National league of hockey whereas during this time the results of Indians are not with the height of the former seasons. The last matches of the series of Indians are played in 1994 in semi-final of the series against the Breton Oilers de Cape.

During the autumn 1994, the frankness from Indians is bought by a lobby external to the city and is moved with Worcester in the same state from the Massachusetts. Indians become then the IceCats de Worcester.

Despite everything, thanks to the will of former players of Indians, Jack Butterfield and Gordon Anziano and Bruce Landon a new frankness is created in the town of Springfield: the Falcons de Springfield.
