Indian institute of Statistics
The Indian Institute of Statistics (English: Indian Statistical Institute ) (ISI), is an institution dedicated to research, the teaching and the applications of the Statistiques, Natural science and social. Founded by the professor PC Mahalanobis with Kolkata the December 17th 1931, the institute obtained the statute of institution of national importance by a decree of the Indian Parliament in 1959.
The head office of the ISI is located in the northern suburbs of the metropolis of Kolkata, with Baranagar, more precisely with Good-Hoogly not far from the Dunlop Bridge . It includes/understands moreover two antennas located at Delhi and Bangalore. Research in statistics and disciplines associated are the principal activity of the institute. Teaching is mainly given to Kolkata, Delhi and Bangalore. Offices of the institute located in other Indian cities deal with projects and are consultants in statistical quality control and Operations research.
Objectives
The main objectives of the ISI, as described in its Memorandum off Association , are:-
to promote the study and the dissemination of the knowledge in statistics, to develop the statistical theories and methods like their use in research and their applications with an special attention given to the problems of planning of the development and social wellbeing;

to begin research in the various fields of the natural science and social with like drank the mutual development of the statistics and these sciences;

to provide and undertake the operations research and project, study, collection of information with an aim of planning and of improving the effectiveness of the Management and the production.
