Index H

The index H is an index trying to quantify the scientific productivity and the impact of a scientist according to a whole of his the most quoted publications. It can also apply to a group of scientists, such as a department, a university or a country. The index was suggested in 2005 by Jorge Hirsch like a tool to determine a relative quality of the theoretical physicists and is sometimes called the index of Hirsch or the number of Hirsch .
