Indesit

Indesit Company is one of the most important companies of manufacture of electric household appliances. It is based in Fabriano (YEAR) in Italy.

History of the company

Founded by Aristide Merloni under the name of Industry Merloni in 1930 with Fabriano (Ancona), the company manufactured initially balances, a market in which she had managed to obtain 40% of the market shares to beginning of the year 50. Shortly after it diversified to manufacture bottles of gas and kettles. It also marketed gas-burners. It little by little extended its range of electric household appliances under the Ariston mark. With died of its founder in 1970, the company was divided into three independent entities: Merloni Elettrodomestici , division electric household appliances, directed by Vittorio Merloni, Merloni Termosanitari, chaired by Francesco Merloni, and division engineering, chaired by Antonio Merloni.

In 1985, Merloni Elettrodomestici acquired Indesit, its large rival on the Italian market but also have a significant presence on the international market. Two years later, the company was quoted on the stock exchange.

In February 2005, Merloni Elettrodomestici was famous Indesit Company , Indesit being the most known mark of the group in-outside Italy. The company also operated under its mark " historique" , Ariston, and under the regional marks Hotpoint, Scholtès and Stinol.

Beginning 2007, the Indesit company launched the new commercial architecture of the group, in which Hotpoint amalgamated with Ariston to form the Hotpoint-Ariston mark.

Some figures

In 2006, the market shares of Indesit in the European market of the white electric household appliances (furnaces, refrigerators, cooking, dishwasher and washing machine) were approximately 14%, with sales consolidated of more than 3,2 billion euros and an annual production approximately 15 million apparatuses sold in 36 countries.

It is the producer number 2 in Europe after Electrolux.

Indesit has 18 factories of production, located in Italy and in other European countries and non-European, and employs more than 17000 people.
