Independent republicans

The Republican-Independent are a French political training.

Under the Third and the Fourth Republic

Group French politicians, marked on the right, end of IIIe and beginning of IVe République. Refusing to take part in PRL, the independent republicans adhere to CNI in 1949.

Under the Fifth Republic

Part of the CNI, around Valery Giscard d'Estaing, made scission after the censure of the government of Georges Pompidou in 1962. This Study committee and of connection of the Independent Republicans constitutes in National federation of the republicans and independent (FNRI), in 1966, auxiliary force for the gaullists (UNR-UDT then UDR). The FNRI becomes the Republican party and independent republican , known as Republican party (PR) in 1977.

They are for liberalism in economy (opening of the borders for example) and for a pro-European policy by asserting the prevalence of the European institutions on the French internal rights and the co-operation of the European states in several fields even if that restraint the sovereignty of these states in this co-operation.

The Young Republicans Independent (JRI), Social and Liberal Génération (GSL, whose Jean-Pierre Raffarin and Patrick Poivre d' Arvor has, inter alia, be responsible) then the Mouvement of the Young people Giscardiens (MJG) constituted the successive youth movements of family IH.
