Independent Rock\'n\'roll

The independent Rock ( indie rock'n'roll in English) is a classification appeared with the appearance of the Punk rock'n'roll at the end of the years 1970. This denomination comes from the asserted independence of the labels with respect to the majors of the disc.

This classification is thus not purely musical but indicates at the origin of the discs (and not of the groups) published by " petits" labels. Many groups are thus qualified (étymologiquement wrongly) of " rock'n'roll indé" whereas they publish their albums in the majors. By extension however the " category; indé" today is used for a kind of music rock'n'roll than for the contractual statute of the groups.

Here a nonexhaustive list of groups considered as " indé". A great number of these groups nevertheless are signed in majors, the term of " rock'n'roll indépendant" or " rock'n'roll indé" from now on being dissociated more and more of the labels.
