Indaial

Indaial is a city Brésil ienne of the State of Santa Catarina, in the Vallée of Rio Itajaí. It is located at a Latitude of 26º 53 ' 52" south and with a Longitude of 49º 13 ' 54" west, with Altitude of 64 meters. Its population is estimated at: 47612 inhabitants in 2006. The municipality extends on 431 km ².

General information

Indaial is located in the Vallée of Rio Itajaí, close to Blumenau. Colonized by German immigrants , the city counts some tourist attractions like the Vale C Encano and the municipal park Ribeirão das Pedras . In the municipal park, in March of each year the FIMI occurs, a festival which commemorates the foundation of the city. Since 2004, the festival includes/understands a Stammtisch , event typically German, where the friends and close relations meet for drinking and eating in center town.

History

Indaiá or andaiá is a type of Palmier or Cocotier, whose abundance in the area impressed the first colonists who decided to give this name to the core of settlement which is established on banks of the river Itajaí-Açu as from 1860. Its fruits are present on the blazon of the city, color gold and 34, allusion to the year 1934, year of the administrative emancipation of the municipality.
