Incantations
Incantations is a made up album and mainly interpreted by Mike Oldfield. It is its fourth album, and the first to propose a work divided into more than two parts. The 33 turns was an double album, while the CD could include whole work on only one disc (see the chapter anecdotes ). It is the longest album published by Mike Oldfield to date.
General information
Incantations was recorded in Througham, property where Mike Oldfield settled after having finished Ommadawn . Oldfield then wished to carry out a disc which would use a small orchestra, and some of its declarations indicate that it could have moved in this new house for the simple reason which it laid out of enough place to accommodate such a formation.
It is during its work on Incantations that Mike Oldfield followed a Thérapie which seems to have affected its way of writing, since one belongs to the differences in style between the parts of the album written before or after this therapy (a detailed analysis posted on a forum defends this analysis by réidentifiant the sections which would be former or posterior with this therapy).
The words of the Part 2 are extracted from The Song off Hiawatha of Longfellow, although rehabilitated that and to adapt there to the music.
The words of the share 4 are, with similar adaptations, those of the Ode in Cynthia (sometimes named Hymne in Diana ), of Cynthia' S Revels ( Entertainments of Cynthia ) of Ben Jonson.
