Inacayal
Modesto Inacayal is the name of a Cacique of the Tehuelche S (Patagons) which lived at the XIXe century (1835-1888) in the Neuquén in Argentine. It was with 3.000 men one of the last resistant to the Argentinian army which completed called the Conquête of the Desert under the command of the Villegas general.
An unexpected attack of Villegas in 1881 expelled towards the south the tolderias (campings) of Inacayal which wintered then close to the sources of the Río Limay (National park Nahuel Huapi current). It was cacic prestigious which took part in the Parliament of Shayhueque. As this last it had to flee in the south, towards the Chubut where they resisted during more than three years the Argentinian military continuation.
Inacayal was delivered with the last cacic, lancers and warriors in 1884 at the height of Junín of los the Andes. Prisoner, it was transferred several times. He was saved military prison, where the Indians perished in great number, thanks to the explorer celebrates Perito Moreno, which was indebted for him for its assistance and its hospitality at the time of voyages that he had made before in the area. Moreno succeeds in making it release. Inacayal finished its days as gatekeeper of the Museum of Plata that Moreno dirigait.
It is buried with Tecka, in province Chubut where its remainders are exposed and are the object of tourist visits.
