Historical reference marks
beginnings of the EAGIn 1912, Mr. Deschamps, director of the higher elementary school boys of Guingamp, creates a company of physical education called “Ahead”. The selected colors are the red and the black. During the season 1921-22, the E.A.G rents, for 99 years, the ground of Montbareil after having used the parade grounds, the ground of the New Smallholding and the stage of Cozen.
The club a long time will evolve/move on a modest level, reaching however the Division of Honor in 1929 (until 1931). Years 1930 will see Guingamp shining in Coupe de France, the point of organ being in 1933, year when Ahead will face Racing Club of France, one of the largest French clubs of the time. Guingamp will find the Division of Honor of 1949 to 1953, with once again of good performances out of Cut (one will see this time the professionals of the FC Sochaux coming in Guingamp). 1969 will have then to be waited until to hear again to speak about In front of Guingamp. This time, they are the young people who are with the honor within the framework of the Gambardella Cut. Guingampais will eliminate successively the Stage Of Rennes and the FC Nantes, and will have the honor to face the ACE Saint-Etienne into 1/4 of finale. Futures great names of French football then come to press the lawn of the stage of Montbareil: Revelli, Sarramagna, Lopez, Synaeghel, etc Guingamp will be eliminated 1-0. But dynamics was launched. An exceptional generation had been just built. It was going to write one of the most beautiful pages of the history of the club in the years 1970.
years Graët
The history of the club is dependant has that of its president Christmas Graët. It arrives at the presidency in 1972 whereas the club is in DSR. The season 1972-1973 marks the beginning of the rise of the club. This year there, EAG arrives in 8th of finale of the cut of France by beating four boarder of D2 (Laval, Brest, Mans and Lorient). It is then question in the national press (Le Monde, the Team) of this small Breton borough accumulating the exploits under the crook of its young president (with-sorrow more than 30 years), Christmas Graët. The club continues on its impetus and connects the rises until division 2 into 77-78. He will play even the rise in D1 at the time of the season 80-81. Finally, the club will finish 3rd and will not pass the course of the stoppings. In 1991, Graët leaves the presidency of the club to take that of the National league. It is replaced by Bertrand Solomon.
the rise of the years 1990 In 1993, the club is relegated in National following the fusion of the two groups of the second division. At this point in time Solomon calls upon Francis Smerecki as a trainer. EAG goes up the following season in D2. The club thanks to an exceptional generation (Guivarch, Rouxel, Laspalles, Michel Coconut…) connect a second consecutive rise. Ahead reaches for the first time of its history in the first division.
Guingamp is maintained 3 seasons (1995/1996,96/97,97/98) during which the club will play the Coupe Intertoto gained in August 1996 against the Volgograd Rotor, the UEFA Cup (eliminated as of the 32e from finale by the prestigious one Inter Milan) and will be finalist of the cut of France against Nice in 1997.
Of JPP with Drogba
In 1998, the club goes down again for two years to the purgatory. At the time of the first season, Jean Pierre Papin is able to finish its career with Guingamp. The experiment turns short and it leaves the club at the semi-season just like Francis Smerecki which pays the disastrous results of the club. Meanwhile, Bertrand Solomon had resigned. Alain Aubert succeeds to him. Guy Lacombe arrives then on the edges of Trieux to take again the club in hand. Ahead finishes 7th thanks to an increase at the time of the second part of the championship (in February, the club was still 15th). The following season, thanks to a duet of powerful attackers (Fabrice Fiorèse, Samuel Michel), the club goes up in D1 (2000).
For this return in the elite, EAG finishes 10th. The second season will be more difficult and Guingamp is maintained only thanks to one victory at the time of the ultimate day (1-0 vis-a-vis Troyes). Guy Lacombe leaves the club for Sochaux. It is replaced by Bertrand Marchand then beginner at the professional level. Alain Aubert leaves his seat of president with Christmas Graët, which carries out its great return to the club. The third season is exceptional. Taken along in attack by the duet Florent Malouda - Didier Drogba, the club finishes 7th at 3 points of the league of the Champions. The club will have evil to recover from this exceptional season. Florent Malouda, Didier Drogba, Montéro and Nestor Fabri leave the club. The arrivals will never fill these departures and the club goes down in League 2 following an end from disastrous season (in particular a defeat in residence at the time of the penultimate day against Nice). Bertrand Marchand is then thanked by Christmas Graët and Yvon Pouliquen takes the direction of the team.
the difficult rebuilding
The club is ambitious and hopes to go up as of the first season, but a beginning of calamitous championship wastes any chance of increase; even if the players rectify the bar of second part of season. All the hopes refer then over the following season. The more so as ambitious recruitment reinforces this feeling (Suarez, Lan, Ecker, Martini, Diop, Watier, Gonzalez…). The return to reality is brutal. Like the last year, the club misses its beginning of the season. In September, Pouliquen into sudden the consequences and is dismissed at the evening of a new defeat in Creteil. Alain Ravera arrives at the head of In front of Guingamp. It begins a long rebuilding work of which the effects are felt only at the time of second half of season. Helped well by the arrivals of Jéremias Caggiano (5 goals in 6 matches played before its wound) and of Kader Touré which redynamisent the group, Guingamp finishes 9th. Although it succeeded in saving the club of a relegation, Ravera pays its lack of communication towards the group and his president. He is dismissed and replaced by Patrick Remy. This last will have from now on like assistant the emblematic figure of the club, Coco Michel. The season 2006-2007 is also very difficult. After a calamitous departure the flirte team all the season with the zone of relegation and runs away itself thanks to a better end of season and the contribution of invaluable players like Meslin or Eduardo.
At the time to approach the season 2007-2008, Guingamp is thus always in Ligue2. Recruitments of Savinaud, Trévisan, Deroff, Liabeuf, Peeled and Felipe Saad show that the club of did not lose anything of its ambitions.
